![]() ![]() I do not have any weird firewalls at my home and using dynamic dns and my own priate ip ranges and SSid’s through the mweb router has been working flaweless for the last 6 months. Until then I am enjoying using the FON service at random peoples homes and sometimes even their neighbors.Īn I don’t mind sharing part of my unused bandwidth to someone else who might have access to FON. I will advise mweb that they can can come and collect it one day if I see the need to use a different router. People on myBB are saying they have been contacted by Mweb and told to plug the FON router in or return it. If I am ever in trouble for changing I would change provider within a month. I have tested another router since and it worked fine so as far as I am concerned nobody is forcing me to use the FON router. I just got the FON router because it was free and the tenda was giving problems. I was with mweb before they started giving away these and used a “tenda” adsl modem. I must have missed them forcing me to use their fon router. Some people might not have problems with a repeater connecting and disconnecting but i found it frustrating. So i chalked it down as being a stupid product not a unchangeable one. IT did exactly the same thing on a friends network that used it completely unchanged. I managed to set up the repeater and change ip’s and ssid’s and such and it worked fine. You can’t unplug it and use another router according to their T&C. In the T&C Mweb force you to use FON router if they supply you with one. The repeater is setup to only work with the FON router wireless settings unchanged. I’ve got 3 free ones from them over the years. Telkom give them away free from time to time. Any netgear, d-link, etc router would be better. It is essentially a no name brand router with mweb firmware and a secondary ssid. Many others have struggled with DNS, DHCP, IP & repeater settings which is not the case with ordinary routers. Maybe a bit harsh seeing as you got it setup, yes. I just can’t use the range extender they sent with it keeps on disconnecting and connecting and really newer worked well for me. Nobody is forcing you to use the router and it is designed to use some of your bandwidth that you are currently not using for the FON network yes. Wireless range not the best ,but works well. i’ve added my dtdns logins and linked them to internal ports ,changed ssid’s set up ip ranges for my home network and set up range for dhcp, have had 0 problems with settings with it. I have one and it’s working just fine, can set up all the standard stuff. ![]()
